It’s a proof point that cultural heritage and cutting-edge AI don’t have to live in separate worlds.

👉 Explore Island Tales here

The Project: Island Tales

Island Tales is an interactive, AI-powered storytelling experience built to preserve and celebrate Caribbean cultural heritage. Using generative AI and agentic workflows, it turns regional narratives into living, dynamic content - ensuring these stories aren’t just remembered, but experienced.

“Instead of letting Caribbean stories fade into the background, I built a system where those narratives drive the AI - not the other way around.”

Why the Women in AI Accelerator?

Two things drew Venetta in: a desire to put culturally specific storytelling at the centre of an AI product, and a drive to get hands-on with agentic systems under real build pressure.

“I wanted to prove that regional heritage can drive cutting-edge innovation - and that the Women in AI Accelerator was the right arena to do it.”

Challenges

Building alone meant every blocker landed squarely on one person. The hardest technical problem wasn’t the tooling - it was getting the model to actually respect the nuance.

“Teaching models to honour the exact cultural depth, tone, and richness of Caribbean stories - without defaulting to generic outputs - was the real challenge.”

Highlights

Finishing on the podium validated both the technical execution and the wider idea: that culturally focused AI is not a niche - it’s a direction.

“Securing 2nd place proved there’s massive potential in this space. The concept landed, and the build backed it up.”

What’s Next?

The agentic backend gets smarter, and the content ecosystem gets bigger - connecting interactive storytelling with educational and multimedia publishing.

“The goal is to make content generation more dynamic and seamless, and to build on the independent publishing foundation I’ve already started.”

Advice for Future Builders

She built without a safety net. That turned out to be the point.

“Trust your vision and your execution. When building independently without a safety net or dedicated mentors, your resourcefulness is your greatest asset. Fall in love with the problem, iterate fast, and build exactly what you know needs to exist.”

Big Picture: Stop Waiting for a Playbook

The real lesson wasn’t about AI - it was about getting out of your own way.

“Stop waiting for a playbook. The best way to learn AI architecture is to break things, fix them yourself, and figure it out as you go.”

📌 Connect with Venetta on LinkedIn

📌 Explore Island Tales

Island Tales was built as part of the Build Club Women in AI Accelerator.
